Chef Apparel

You may have seen, on different occasions, chefs from high quality hotels in action, which, apart from cooking, means doing their best to arrange the tables as attractively as they can. What tells chefs apart from the other kitchen staff is their individual chef apparel.

Taking into consideration the job description, a chef must constantly be on the move from one part of the kitchen to the other. Also, he is constantly on his feet, while cooking. This is why, a great deal of attention is given to selecting the right pair of shoes. They must be comfortable but also slip resistant.

An integral part of chef apparel is the apron. Don’t be mislead into thinking that the apron of a chef is similar to the apron worn by women while preparing their home-made food. Its utility is, mainly, to protect the one who wears it from the spills and stains that are likely to occur. This apron is always white and it has long ties as to permit them to go around the waist and be tied in front of the body. Doing so, allows hand wiping cloths to be hung there.

Noone can imagine chef apparel without thinking of the chef’s hat. Its design permits the hat to fit any head size of any chef. The color of the hat can be white, or it can receive the colors that that restaurant or hotel considers appropriate. To prevent th hat from falling the hat has a special band that sits on the chef’s head. In order to stop hair from falling into the food, the hat has a balloon chaped covering.

Another aspect that must receive attention when thinking about chef apparel is the pair of pants. The main characteristic of chef’s pants is comfort. One needs to be able to move around, bend forward in front of ovens and pass through tight places without having to worry about accidental tears in the pants. Another thing to consider is the material the pants are made from. It has to allow the skin to breathe, as the working environment causes sweat to occur.

To complete the basics of chef apparel one needs to purchase a chef’s coat. As it is often the case, many chefs will have to face their clients and for this, they need to look well dressed. The coat can be long sleeved or short sleeved. Either way, it needs to meet the same requirement as all other items comprising the chef apparel, that of being comfortable.
